Preparation of Vegetables - Maki
Cook rice
- 500 ml cold Water
- 250 g Sushi rice
Wash 250 g Sushi rice in a sieve.
Place in a pan with 500 ml cold Water and bring to the boil.
Switch off the hob (reduce the gas setting to the lowest heat) and leave the rice to soak for 30 minutes.
Rice seasoning
- 2 tbsp Rice vinegar
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tsp Salt
Dissolve 1 tsp Sugar and 1 tsp Salt in 2 tbsp Rice vinegar and spread over the rice.
Leave the rice to cool.
Prepare the filling
- Cucumber, Carrot, Scallion, Avocado, Radish
A wide variety of vegetables can be used, e.g. Cucumber, Carrot, Scallion, Avocado or Radish. Cut the desired ingredients into 4x4mm thick strips.
Maki forming
- 6 leaves Nori
6 leaves Nori (red Japanese seaweed leaves) are required.
Place one seaweed leaf on each bamboo mat and spread some sushi rice on top.
Place the filling at one end of the sheet and roll up.
Cut the roll into 3 cm thick slices.
Serve
- Soy sauce, Wasabi paste, Pickled ginger leaves
Serve with Soy sauce and Wasabi paste as well as Pickled ginger leaves.
